With just a little more than 7 months before medical practices have to switch to the vastly more complex ICD-10 coding system, only about 9% of medical practices have made "significant progress" toward that end.
In an effort to help member practices transition as smoothly as possible before the implementation date of October 1, 2014, many great resources are available to our members to assist in preparation.
Suggestions for steps that your practice can take to get ready for ICD-10 are to talk with your software vendor, billing service and payers. Identify changes in your practice needed to convert to the ICD-10 code set, recognize the need for staff training, conduct internal testing prior to the deadline and conduct external testing with your vendors.
