Dr. Anandu Represents NYACP at MSSNY Advocacy Day

On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Nandini Anandu, MD, FACP, former Vice Chair of NYACP’s Health and Public Policy Committee, joined as a panelist with other specialty society organization representatives and shared NYACP’s legislative priorities.

Event attendees heard from the following invited guest speakers:

    Deputy Senate Majority Leader Michael Gianaris
    James McDonald, MD, NYS Commissioner of Health
    Senate Majority Leader Robert Ortt

In addition, there was an interesting Health and Insurance Panel consisting of:

    Senator Gustavo Rivera, Chair, Senate Health Committee
    Senator Jamaal T. Bailey, Chair, Senate Insurance Committee
    Assembly Member David Weprin, Chair, Assembly Insurance Committee
    Assembly Member Amy Paulin, Chair, Assembly Health Committee

FY2026-27 MSSNY Budget Priorities – all of which are in line with NYACP priorities:

    Excess Medical Malpractice Insurance Program
    Prior Authorization
    Physician Assistants (PAs) to practice without physician supervision after 8,000 practice hours
    Moving oversight of physician private practice incorporation from the State Education Department (SED) to the NYS Department of Health.

Loretta Ponesse, the Chapter’s Executive Director would specifically like to give a shout out to Dr. Shane Solger, a former NYACP Advocacy Program Intern, Dr. Tina Chee, NYACP’s Syracuse District President, and Dr. Niraj Acharya, NYACP’s Brooklyn District President, for making an effort to say hello and taking the day to be in Albany to advocate on behalf of their patients and their profession!
