The New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians (NYACP) is a membership organization dedicated to advancing the specialty of Internal Medicine in New York State through education, advocacy and quality improvement. With offices in Albany, volunteer physician leaders across the State, a dedicated full-time staff, effective communications and local, regional and state-wide meetings, the New York Chapter is structured to respond to members as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Advocacy

We advocate responsible public policy positions relating to health care for the benefit of the public, patients, our members and the medical profession. Our Advocacy focus includes regulatory agencies, the NYS Legislature, the Executive Office, insurance companies and other healthcare stakeholders.

NYS Assembly Health Committee Holding Public Hearings on Single Payer Legislation

Assembly Health Committee Chair, Richard Gottfried, has announced that the Committee will hold a series of public hearings on "New York Health", a legislative proposal to create state sponsored single payer health coverage. Anyone can testify at these hearings. If you have a strong opinion in favor or opposed to a single payer system, you can sign up to testify at one of these hearings. If you simply want to listen to others who present testimony you are welcome to attend as well.

Hudson Valley Chapter Governor Elect Designee

Congratulations to Louis S. Snitkoff, MD, FACP; our new Governor-elect Designee to ACP National! He will serve a year of orientation as a Governor-elect and then will start his four-year term as Governor in the Spring of 2016. As Governor, Dr. Snitkoff is the official representative of the College for the New York Hudson Valley Region, providing a link between members at the local level and leadership at the national level.

Efforts to Improve Patient Safety Result in 1.3 Million Fewer Hospital Acquired Conditions with 50,000 Lives Saved


Hospital-acquired conditions decline by 17 percent over a three-year period

report released by HHS on December 2 shows an estimated 50,000 fewer patients died in hospitals and approximately $12 billion in health care costs were saved as a result of a reduction in hospital-acquired conditions from 2010 to 2013. <<Read More
