• The Office of Health Insurance Programs of the New York State Department of Health has released the Medicaid Update Special Edition on e-prescribing. The guidance provided in this bulletin is intended to assist prescribers and pharmacies in preparing for participation in the program on January 1, 2010. The long-term goals of the program are to reduce medication errors, encourage pharmaceutical practices that produce better patient outcomes, and yield savings.  > Download it here  <
  

Patient Centered Medical Home
ACP has developed a Patient Centered Medical Home section of their website that provides information on resources and tools, as well as costs and benefits.

The ACP Medical Home Builder (MHB) is an on-line resource and tool which will allow physicians to evaluate their practices in seven key areas through a Practice Biopsy. The key areas include: Patient-Centered Care & Communication; Access & Scheduling; Organization of Practice; Care Coordination & Transitions in Care; Use of Technology; Population Management; and Quality Improvement & Performance Improvement.

A practice can focus on any module, in any order, without needing to complete the entire program. The MHB generates a color-coded print out of the biopsy results to help practices focus on functions that need attention, and also provides a crosswalk to the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) standards. The practice will be directed to tools (such as templates for office policies) and informative guides in a variety of formats (e.g., video, voice-over-slides, web-based, documents) based on responses to the Practice Biopsy questions. Users may choose to go directly to any resources, or use the search function to find material on a specific topic.
