Committees & Task Forces

Develop your leadership path and get involved by serving on the Chapter's various committees and task forces.  A committee has permanent standing, whereas a task force meets as needed to address specific, time-limited issues.  Most committees and task forces meet at least two times per year via conference call.

Committees

Education Committee      

The Education Committee will meet on an ad-hoc basis to plan and promote the Annual Chapter Meeting. Activities will include suggesting topics, potential faculty, meeting format and will assist in meeting promotion.

Ethics & Professionalism Committee

The mission of the committee is to: 1) Provide a resource to Internists in New York State about ethical issues in clinical practice and research; 2) Address policy and educational issues in medical ethics that are unique to New York State’s legal and policy environment, in conjunction with NYACP’s Health and Public Policy Committee; 3) Share best practices of leading ethics programs across New York State.

Health and Public Policy Committee

The Health and Public Policy Committee's mission is to advocate for our patients, our members and the medical profession; Monitor, develop and act on legislative, regulatory and public policy developments in the area of health care delivery, focusing on issues that impact the provision of high quality and cost effective care to patients, Internal Medicine practice, public health and medical education; Formulate and make recommendations on the legislative agenda and advocacy program; and to Review and make recommendations on resolutions generated by Chapter members, districts, council members, committee and governors.

Liaison Committee

The Liaison Committee will serve as the chapter's official delegate to the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY). The committe will seek to work with other professional and specialty organizations to create a forum for common issues and concerns.

Medical Students Committee

The Medical Student Committee will meet as needed to plan and execute educational and membership programs for medical student members of the College.

Member Engagement Committee

The Membership/Communications  Committee's top priorities include membership recruitment, retention, and advancement to fellowship.   The Committee routinely monitors membership statistics and makes recruitment and retention recommendations to the Council for action and implementation.  In addition, the Committee continually seeks members who might qualify for Fellowship and encourages them to pursue and complete the Advancement to Fellowship application process.In addition, the committee is charged with the responsibility to create, distribute and evaluate the effectiveness and value of all aspects of communication from the Chapter to the membership.

Quality and Patient Safety Committee
 

The mission of the NYACP Quality and Patient Safety Committee is to educate members on quality trends and initiatives, to guide the Chapter in quality project and improvement activities, and to provide members with resources and tools for incorporating quality improvement, patient safety and outcomes initiatives into their practice. The committee is charged with serving as an educational resource for NYACP members; serving as the central forum for linking all quality initiatives within the Chapter; communicating with Council and membership regarding ongoing quality and patient safety initiatives; participating in quality and patient safety project development and decision making with other partners; serving as a physician advocate and resource for evaluation of quality and patient safety measurement programs; and evaluating possible new quality and patient safety initiatives and requests for Chapter support.

Residents Committee

The Residents Committee will meet as  needed to  plan and execute educational and membership programs for Resident Members of the College

Task Forces

Early Career Physicians Task Force

The goals of the Early Career Task Force is to enhance the professional development and quality of life for young physicians, fostering their involvement in College activities, while ensuring their needs are being met.

Geriatrics Task Force

The Geriatrics Task Force mission is to keep NYACP HPP abreast of public health, legislative and public policy developments in geriatric care which addresses the complex needs of older people, focusing on health promotion and the prevention and treatment of disease.  The task force focuses on issues that impact quality of care patients, Internal Medicine practice, public health and medical education.
