Happy New Year! Reflecting on Purpose, Building Connections and New Challenges

Dear NYACP Members,

Happy New Year! As we begin 2025, it's the perfect time to reflect on the year behind us, celebrate our achievements, and set intentions for the future. This is a season for renewal—a chance to embrace our purpose, prioritize our well-being, and strengthen the connections that bring meaning to our lives.

Living Our Purpose: HCW vs Hunger Challenge
One of the highlights of 2024 was our Chapter's incredible participation in the HCW vs Hunger Challenge (11/28/24 thru 12/3/24). Together, our Team (IM Generous) secured 10th place nationally, raising an inspiring $9,979 to combat food insecurity. The total donated by all teams was $812,662.  This success represents more than numbers—it reflects the power of living with purpose, and the impact we can make when we unite around a common cause.

As physicians, our purpose often stems from caring for others. Yet, embracing our personal passions and fostering joy in our lives outside of medicine is so important.  Whether it's mentoring, engaging in community service, or advocating for patients, living with purpose empowers us to thrive professionally and personally.

The Role of Hobbies and Social Interaction
In 2025, let’s also remember to nurture our hobbies and social connections. Hobbies provide an outlet for creativity, reduce stress, and enrich our lives. My hobbies include knitting, skiing, playing piano, and hiking.  I challenge all of you to pick up a new hobby in 2025 that enhances your overall well-being.

Likewise, social interactions with colleagues, family, and friends remind us that we are not alone in this journey. Membership in ACP offers many opportunities to connect—whether through local chapter events, national meetings, or chapter communities. These interactions are essential for building a support network, sharing experiences, and reigniting your passion for medicine.

Maximizing Membership: Becoming a Fellow of ACP
This new year is the ideal time to focus on professional growth. Have you considered becoming a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP)? Fellowship is a prestigious recognition of your accomplishments and dedication to the values of internal medicine. It also symbolizes your commitment to lifelong learning, leadership, and advocacy.  Check out the NYACP Webinar on  Advancement to Fellowship.

Fellowship is attainable through involvement in ACP activities, publishing, teaching, or leadership roles. It’s a meaningful way to deepen your engagement with ACP while advancing your career. Let 2025 be the year you take this important step. Contact me or any of the other NY Governors to find out more about ACP Fellowship.

Looking Ahead
A new year reminds us of the opportunities that come with a fresh start. Just as our HCW vs Hunger success demonstrated the strength of collective action, this year invites us to focus on purpose, hobbies, and relationships—elements that sustain us and bring joy to our lives.

This is your Chapter, your community, and your year to make a difference. Let’s approach 2025 with optimism, dedication, and a commitment to meaningful connection. Make this new year one in which we can all accomplish extraordinary things.

Together, let 2025 be a year of purpose, passion, and possibilities!
