Chapter Awards Committee: Nominations are currently being accepted for Chapter Awards in the following categories: Education, Advocacy, Clinical Excellence, Research (Residents/Fellows only), Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and Public Health. The deadline for submitting a nomination is June 15, 2025. 2025 Award Nominations Form.
Early Career Physicians Committee: Stay tuned for a four-part Leadership Webinar series, and a two– part Board Review Course! Members are invited to grade abstracts and judge posters for our Resident/ Fellow and Student Members.
Resident/Fellow Committee: An ERAS Survey is almost complete and will be distributed to Program and Associate Program Directors in March. This survey will provide much-needed information on the application process. The Chapter currently has an opening for Resident/Fellow Council Board representatives-interested applicants can contact Karen LaBello at klabello@nyacp.org.
Medical Student Committee (MSC): The students are currently developing a 3-part Mentorship Series which began in 2024. The MSC is also working on organizing a statewide Internal Medicine Interest Group (IMIG) to collaborate and develop programs that can help all IMIG programs across NY state.
DEI Task Force: The task force is actively planning initiatives to address critical health disparities. In April 2025, an in-person Black Maternal Health Week event will highlight key issues in Black maternal care. In the Fall 2025, a Cultural Sensitivity Webinar will provide insights on equitable patient care. Looking ahead to 2026, a Disparities in Artificial Intelligence Webinar will explore biases in AI and their impact on healthcare outcomes.
Well -Being Committee: The committee nominated five new Well Being Champions who will complete training with ACP to support grassroots well-being efforts. Congratulations to Dr. Raphael Rabinowitz, Dr. Saika Sharmeen, Dr. Basel Abuzuaiter, Dr. Inderpreet Singh, and Dr. Sravan Ponnekanti! This spring, Dr. Michael Myers will conduct a follow up session on preventing physician suicide for the quarterly Wisdom and Well Being series, and Dr. Daniel Pomerantz will lead a book club discussion—details coming soon via email and the website!
Health and Public Policy Committee: The committee has set NYACP’s Legislative Agenda for 2025 and continues to engage with NYS legislators and leaders to advance key healthcare issues. At the first virtual Advocacy Town Hall of 2025, members explored advocacy resources and discussed priorities at the state and federal level. These quarterly sessions are a great opportunity to stay informed and get involved, be sure to attend! The next Town Hall will be held during the Chapter’s Advocacy Week, May 12-17, 2025. A complete listing of events will be posted this month.
Member Engagement Committee: Under the new leadership of Dr. Chris Migliore, the Member Engagement Committee has been actively developing new goals and strategies to recruit and engage members. Key initiatives include featuring a monthly member spotlight in the newsletter, creating dynamic social media content, and recording sessions with leadership to showcase the value of ACP and the NY Chapter. To further refine these efforts, Dr. Migliore conducted a SWOT analysis and member data review to identify strengths and areas for improvement in recruitment and retention.
Climate Change Task Force: The Climate Change Task Force has been diligently reviewing the impact of climate change on patients’ care, the increased prevalence of disease processes due to environmental changes, and opportunities for positive changes in practice within healthcare systems. Their initial efforts have focused on assessing NYACP's overall environmental impact. As an important step, the task force has submitted the Sustainable NYACP Initiative proposal to leadership.
Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Task Force: The task force has organized a virtual meeting featuring Dr. Maria Carney, a renowned expert in geriatric medicine, who will offer a fresh perspective on how we can improve the challenges clinicians and health care systems face moving forward. Additionally, plans are in motion for a podcast interview with Dr. Carney and former NYACP Advocacy Intern Dr. Isabella Newman. Looking ahead, the Task Force Chair, Dr. Daniel King, and Vice Chair, Dr. Jennifer Hensley, will participate in an Elder Care Panel presentation at the 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting,
IMG Workgroup: Recently, the workgroup invited Janaki Deepak, MD, FACP, from the Maryland Chapter to share insights on their efforts in supporting IMGs. Inspired by her presentation, the workgroup is developing a dedicated page on the NYACP website to highlight available resources for IMGs. Ongoing projects include a podcast addressing common IMG questions and a 3-part panel discussion webinar series focused on notable issues relevant to IMGs in the different stages of their careers.
