Investing in leadership is essential for teamwork, patient care, education, and career advancement. ACP and NYACP offer numerous opportunities to develop and refine leadership skills at every career stage:
Chair or Vice Chair of a Committee/Task Force (two-year term) - Lead meetings and projects that support education, well-being, and professional development. Join a committee or task force today and turn interest or passion into action!
District President - Plan education, social, and/or networking events in your local community. Attending events is an excellent way to meet and connect with current leaders.
Council/Board Member (three-year term) – Help shape Chapter policy and represent members in your community with a voice and vote at Chapter Council Board meetings that are held three times per year (2 virtual and 1 in-person). This year, there are openings for Councilors At Large in the Brooklyn/Queens/Staten Island, Long Island, and Upstate Regions.
Medical Student and Resident/Fellow Council Representatives – Advocate for students and trainees, with voice and vote, at the Chapter’s Council Board meetings. Many representatives are selected after active participation on NYACP Committees/Task Forces or by completing the NYACP Advocacy Internship Program.
NYACP Governor (four-year term plus an initial year as Governor Elect) – Serve on the Chapter’s Executive Committee and the ACP Board of Governors, collectively handles NYACP business and influences policy at the state and national levels. In the final year, the Governor serves as President of the Chapter. A Call for Nominations is announced annually to only FACP’s and MACP’s in the applicable NYACP region(s).
Take intentional steps to build your path to leadership within NYACP. Join a committee or task force, attend events, review abstracts, volunteer to serve as a judge posters, submit a presentation topic, and explore volunteer opportunities through ACP. Every step strengthens your skills and connections!
