Rochester District Meeting Recap

The Rochester District Met on March 26, 2025

On Wednesday, March 26th, NYACP members from all categories (medical students, resident/fellows, early career physicians, mid-career physicians, and senior career physicians) came out to network and listen attentively to peers and mentors as stories were shared on how internal medicine has impacted their lives.

The group of 30 attendees originally registered to attend NYACP’s Rochester District Meeting on 3/26/25 in the Paddle Room at the Midtown Athletic Club located at 200 E. Highland Drive in Rochester.  They came because they were invited and based upon interest derived from the program topic:  “Career Paths in Internal Medicine:  Pearls and Pitfalls From Those Who Paved the Way”.

Valerie Newman, MD, FACP, NYACP’s Rochester District President, began the event by briefly sharing her career in medicine, explaining how she ended up in Rochester practicing internal medicine and volunteering for her specialty organization as the District President and realizing how she is enjoying the networking component of this appointed position.  Dr. Newman’s story was followed by other similar engaging stories from …  Drs. Bordley, Cahn-Hidalgo, Gigliotti, Guset (NYACP’s Rochester District Councilor), O’Regan, and Oskig.

While the stories were told, those in the audience either stood or sat, but there was total silence as everyone got lost in the details.  The valuable insights, wisdom, ideas, and suggestions took everyone on a unique journey through the many possibilities that included INTERNAL MEDICINE as a career choice.  The evening was certainly unique and engaging and provided everyone with key takeaways.

Many thanks to all who came out on March 26th!  A special thanks to Dr. Newman and the planning committee for a fantastic job, and to all the ACP members who shared such interesting stories about their career paths.  There is no doubt that this information will be helpful to those who purposely came for insight - Career Paths in Internal Medicine!
